The World Hunger Bowl is the culmination of a week long food drive to help battle world hunger. The 4rd annual World Hunger Bowl event scheduled for November 3rd at 6:00 at the Aliso Creek Inn, will feature live music, food from local Laguna Beach restaurants, and a silent auction where bowls handcrafted by renowned and local artisans will be auctioned to raise funds to benefit those in the community who need assistance.
The food drive during World Hunger Awareness Week benefits the Food Pantry operated by Laguna Relief and Resource Center and aids their effort to assist those in need in the community of Laguna Beach.

The World Hunger Bowl benefits the Laguna Beach Alternate Sleeping Location operated by the city of Laguna Beach.

You can view and bid on the handcrafted bowls here.

Websites for Homeowners Associations

Homeowners Associations  have been in existence in the continental United States since 1960. In the late 1990′s many associations  commissioned dedicated websites to help communicate with members, and promote the property to prospective buyers.  Some of the websites were quite advanced in their day.

A better website for Homeowners Associations

As I speak with association managers today, I  learn that many are facing the same set of limitations with their existing websites.

  1. It is difficult to make changes to the old sites.  It seems many of the original website developers have vanished, and the few that remain are not returning calls.
  2. The old sites do not provide an effective means of  communication with members of the association.  Association leadership find themselves taping flyers to front doors to publicize upcoming events.

Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be that way.  [W:H] websites give you the ability to edit and add content to your website without the need for special web programming skills.  [W:H] websites provide a built in blog feature which makes it possible for association managers to communicate directly with members in real time.  The blog also allows members to respond right through the website.

If you are tired of chasing your web guy give us a call.  If you are tired of taping flyers to garage doors let us show you a better way.

For a simple, elegant, cost effective website for your community, association, or organization, call [W:H] today at (949) 813 3861.

Replace Fossil Fuel

We at [Web: Handyman] are firm believers that the world needs to replace fossil fuels with something that does not cause so many global problems.  We believe that man is smart enough to come up with an alternative to causing explosions and trying to harness the resulting energy.  In general, we don’t believe in causing explosions as a source of power,  or as a political statement.

We at [Web: Handyman] are firm believers that electricity is the logical choice to replace combustion as a source of power for our transportation needs.  There are so many ways to turn the earths intrinsic power into electricity.   With all that we have harnessed electrons to do already, electricity gets our vote.

[Web: Handyman] believes that once the world finds a better means to store electricity, and transport it from where it can be easily generated, to where it is needed for use,  the World will enjoy a much more peaceful existence.  Until then, we believe hybrid technology must certainly be a step in the right direction.

We  saw another feature recently that attempted to calculate the breakeven point for owning a hybrid vehicle.  The conclusion, as usual, was that it will take a very long time to recoup the difference in cost of ownership for a hybrid model vs. the gas powered equivalent.  I always wonder what the conclusion would be if they could take into consideration the taxes we pay, to maintain fighting forces all over the world, to protect our access to fossil fuel.   They always seem to conclude with a statement like “unless you are buying a hybrid to save the planet, you are better off buying  the gas powered model.”

I say fine! Let’s not buy hybrids to save gas money. Let’s buy hybrids and electric vehicles to save the world!

Case Study: Home Owners Association Website

Several HOA’s recently told us what they like and what they don’t like about their current website.  They like the fact that they can refer a resident, or prospective resident to the website for answers to frequently asked questions, or frequently needed documents and phone numbers.

Homeowners Association WebsiteThey report that they do not like having to arm wrestle with their web person to make any changes that may be needed.  HOA managers also wish the website would help them communicate more easily with residents when there is news to report about current issues or events.

These discussions led us to develop a “better mousetrap”  for Associations of all kinds.  We solved the need to make changes to the websites more quickly and easily by buildingl association websites on the powerful WordPress CMS platform.  We train the association how to make all the changes you want or even add new content without web developer skills.

Then we reckoned that WordPress also offers an integrated blog, which is the perfect solution for the challenge of communicating with residents and other interested parties.  The “blog” trumps the traditional newsletter because you can publish a post at any time.  You no longer have to wait until the next issue of the newsletter to come out.

The other big advantage tot he blog is that it can provide a two way means of conversation with the reader.  Blog posts have a provision built in which allows a resident to leave a comment or question on a post. Therefor the blog allows not only real-time publishing of information but enables a conversation as well.

Here is an example the before and after version of a website for Cedar Glen Home Owners Association in Lake Forest California.
